Take the Parish Survey
Take the COVID-19 Survey

Dear Parishioners,

The St. Monica’s Parish Survey is now complete and ready for your input. The vestry has also posted a survey to ask how you are feeling concerning worship during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Both surveys will give us valuable information and insight as to what qualities you want in our new rector, as well as when you believe you will be comfortable to begin attending in-person worship again. Also, if you have suggestions on what we can do to improve or expand our live-streaming services, please note them on the survey.

This is your chance to let the vestry know your feelings on worship and ministry and how you would like the church to proceed in its search for a new rector. Both surveys will be accessible through September (and longer if needed). For those using on-line devices, a simple click on the links at the end of this letter will take you directly to the surveys. Or if you are unable to log on to the links, please call Jennifer, the parish administrator at 239.591.4550. She will help you either access the links, or she will mail out a hard copy to you. We need all of St. Monica’s to respond to these surveys so we have an accurate idea of what qualities you believe our new rector should have.

The vestry has started to move forward with forming our rector search committee. Ray Lapierre, Beth Moss, Heidi Varsames, and Carol Hedman will be the vestry members on this committee, and we will be asking five parishioners to serve also. This will occur the first week of October. If you are asked, please take time to prayerfully reflect on your decision before responding.

Once the search committee is formed, we will finish the required Office of Transitional Ministry documents and assemble our parish profile. These will then be posted on the diocesan website, and the diocese will begin receiving applications. Before the St. Monica’s search committee receives any applications, the diocese will do its vetting and pass along appropriate candidates.

Once the search committee has received the list of appropriate candidates, the interview process will start. This will be done either online or in-person. Then, if health conditions allow and no travel restrictions exist, in-person visits to the applicants’ home parishes will occur. The vestry will continue by bringing two or three final candidates to St. Monica’s for in-person meetings and interviews with the entire vestry. Lastly, the vestry will convene and prayerfully discern whom God has chosen to be our rector.

Please keep the vestry and search committee foremost in your prayers while they are doing this most important work. And if you have any questions, please contact me or any vestry member with your concerns.

Stay well!

Matt Devlin
