Our greeters are extremely important people at St. Monica’s. They are outside the front door of the church, ready to welcome guests to our worship services and other events. They invite guests to sign our guest book, make nametags for them, and give them our welcoming bag. Once a guest is inside the worship space, all of us are greeters – doing what we can to make our guest’s experience with us a good one, inviting them to coffee hour, adult forum, Sunday School, etc.
9:30 a.m. service: Coffee Hour is hosted by volunteers each Sunday. Coffee, tea and lemonade, plus all paper products are provided by St. Monica’s. Hosts usually bring fruit, cookies, nuts, cheese and crackers, etc. Food not requiring a fork is preferred. Hosts tidy up the kitchen as people are departing. 5:00 p.m. service: On the first Saturday of each month, volunteers host a “wine and cheese fellowship” after the 5 p.m. service. Tea, lemonade and paper products are provided by St. Monica’s. Goodies are whatever the host brings – wine, cheese and crackers, veggies and dip, and fruit are some examples.
When funerals are held at St. Monica’s, a simple reception is offered to the family. Usually, iced tea, lemonade, and cookies are served. Members bake cookies, and a team sets up and hosts.
Every other month the Vestry and Welcoming team invite newcomers to join them for dinner. This gives our newcomers a chance to meet the leaders of St. Monica’s and vice versa. Invitations are sent in the mail, as well as by email and in parish publications. It is hoped that all new people will attend.
Welcome to St. Monica’s Class
Newcomers are invited to remain after the Welcoming dinner for a time to learn about the history of St. Monica’s, about the programs and ministries of the parish, and about our outreach activities and opportunities for involvement.
