Service (Local Mission) Commission
Commission Chair: Carol Hedman and Janet Ross
For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ Matthew 25:42-43
HOW WE SERVE:
- We evaluate the spiritual, physical, emotional, and relational needs of our local neighbors
- We develop and organize teams of parishioners for local mission efforts.
- We serve in existing “local mission” projects.
- We develop teams for new local mission through emerging ministry opportunities in our local neighborhoods.
Service Commission Ministry Teams
Baby Basics: Jill Ducatman
This organization provides disposable diapers for qualified working families in Collier County. St. Monica’s Baby Basics team distributes a case of diapers to each of 30 babies on the second Wednesday of each month. We also support fundraising efforts by Baby Basics of Collier County.
Pinecrest Middle Immokalee Doug Ball
Located in one of the poorest communities in Collier County, this school provides an excellent education to its students through the generosity of its supporters. Twice each school year, the Women of St. Monica’s provides a lovely luncheon for the teachers and staff. They have no PTA/PTO to provide this kind of support. Additionally, the congregation of St. Monica’s collects underwear, socks and school supplies for the students.
Grace Place for Children: Jill Ducatman
Grace Place is a non-profit neighborhood center focused on teaching literacy, language and life skills to children and families at risk in Golden Gate City
Tumaini Fund Ralph Turley
Tumaini USA provides help to thousands of AIDS orphans in Kangara, Tanzania. These funds provide the opportunity for school, job training, healthcare and other needs. St. Monica’s is part of Sewing for Hope, a ministry to assist this agency. Contact: Ralph and Margaret Miano
St. Monica’s Local Service Team Meals of Hope Antonietta Witte
Ministering with “Meals of Hope” a team several parishioners monthly go into the neighborhood and distribute free nutritious food items to our neighbors in need.
St. Matthews Soup Ministry Tom Hughes
Their mission is to provide housing for the homeless, food for the needy, and an opportunity to change lives in a spiritual environment that is both compassionate and disciplined. In addition to avid support of the annual Golf-A-Thon, members of St. Monica’s also prepare soup which we deliver each month in our “Soup of the Month” program.
Guadalupe Soup Kitchen Fred Cable
We help set up and serve a hot lunch to the neediest men, women and children at the Guadalupe Soup Kitchen in Immokalee. We serve on the 2nd Thursday of every month and need at least 8 people to volunteer. Meet at the Church at 9:45 AM to carpool. Hope you can help us serve.
